Last week, our gifted 3rd graders turned into real-world geologists! The students ventured outside to conduct a scavenger hunt to find rocks with unique, special features.
From sparkling quartz veins to unusual striped patterns, they discovered that even the smallest stones have a story to tell.
After examining their finds, we added a twist of imagination. The teacher gave each student a "magic stone." They were asked to write about what they would wish for if their discovery was a magic rock. The answers were beautiful. Some wished for superpowers like flight, while others selflessly wished for world peace and endless books. Many wished for their family to always be together and happy!. This activity perfectly combined scientific observation with creative, critical thinking.
